Using glazed facades in the kitchen, you can greatly diversify the design of your furniture. Glass in the facades of cabinets adds airiness and originality. When ordering a headset, just mark those doors of the facades that will be glazed.
It is possible to order glazing of any facade in our company: MDF facade in PVC film with glass, MDF facade in plastic with glass, radiused (curved) facade with glass, glass facade in aluminum frame.
Another plus of glazed facades is the ability to install decorative lighting, which in turn will give your kitchen a truly cosmic design.
"Subtle nuances" - types of facades
What is such an “air” facade? These are cabinet doors, which can have different shapes, opening methods and decor. Glass doors can only be located at the top of the headset or all kitchen modules will be made of glass. You can choose a cabinet whose facade will be framed or with solid glass. What are the differences between one headset and another?
- Frame type of facades. Such cabinets will be made of a frame (aluminum profile), inside which a sheet of glass is inserted. The frame can be very thin and almost invisible. In this case, the cabinet will seem “weightless” and made of solid glass. Also, the aluminum frame can be very wide. In this case, the main role will not be played by glass, namely the frame. It can be painted in bright colors. In the next photo, look at the interior of the kitchen, where there is a suite with such facades.
- Frameless type. It is clear that such a kitchen cabinet will not have an aluminum frame. Here all the doors are made of very durable glass. True, such headsets are rare. This is because the manufacture of glass cabinets without a frame is not only time-consuming, but also expensive. If you need to choose the perfect set for a small kitchen in the neoclassical or high-tech style, a frameless type will be very useful.
Frame models are considered more durable and reliable due to the presence of an aluminum profile, and frameless - more stylish. In the process of choosing a headset, pay attention to the accessories of the cabinets - it should not come in contact with the glass. By the way, this point is also worth considering if you will make facades with your own hands.
The advantages of glass facades
Glass combines almost all the advantages of known materials. If you look at the reviews of the owners of different models of headsets, you can say for sure that a kitchen cabinet assembled with high quality, with strong fittings will last an incredibly long time. So we note the first advantage - durability. Of course, you should choose hanging cabinets made of durable tempered glass and aluminum profile.
A few more advantages of the material:
- Environmental friendliness - the glass facade does not harm health, since the material does not contain either toxins or heavy metals.
- Practicality - glass will easily tolerate constant humidity, grease, and high temperatures.
- Versatility - you can choose not only solid glass facades, but also models where wall cabinets are made of chipboard, MDF, wood with glass inserts. This option is good if you need to decorate the kitchen or design implies the availability of modern materials.
- Decorative variety - Glass does not have to be transparent or plain frosted. Cabinets can be decorated with colored film, printing, sandblasting. You can choose both classic-style and curved cabinets. Look at the next photo of how a headset made of colored and unusual glass looks like.
It is worth saying that glass doors can be ordered separately. For example, your module is made of MDF, and you want to convert it. You can assemble and install such doors with your own hands.
If we talk about the shortcomings, the first thing we note is the high cost. Yes, a glass facade will cost an order of magnitude more expensive than a kitchen unit made of MDF and even wood. Another drawback is the whimsical care. Splashes of water, stains and traces of steam will have to be wiped daily from the facades.
From Art Nouveau to Neoclassical - Glass Decor
The kitchen set with glass doors in itself looks presentable and stylish. But modern kitchen design trends dictate their own rules, and many manufacturers offer very diverse facades in both color and shape. Below you will see a photo where a kitchen cabinet with such a facade is presented.
- Frosted glass. A classic that always remains in fashion. As a result of chemical or mechanical exposure, the glass loses its transparency and becomes roughened. This effect is achieved by treating glass with dry sand or a special paste, which dissolves the top layer of the material. Caring for a frosted facade will be easier. In the next photo - a headset where such glass is used.
- Fusing. A new word in the design of facades. The technology is that small pieces of colored glass are laid on top of a transparent one. Then the whole composition is placed in an oven. The result is an unusual cabinet made of multi-colored glass.
- Sandblasting. Such a glass facade will combine transparency and dullness. They process the material with a stream of dry sand, due to which an alternation of textures and patterns is obtained. You can choose ready-made headsets or order according to an individual drawing. Look at the photo below how such facades look in the interior of the kitchen.
- Molded glass. Using the technology of heating the glass mass to a plastic state, bent forms of cabinets are obtained. We are used to the fact that doors are certainly simple lines and corners. But today you can buy curved glass facades that fit into any room. By the way, it is this technology that allows you to install radiused facades in the kitchen, for example, for corner cabinets.
- Engraving. As a rule, the ornament is performed by a laser. Less often - manually. It is clear that the latter option will cost more. Engraving can have floral, floral or abstract motifs. Choose such facades for kitchens in the neoclassical or modern style.
- Colored glass. Such a cabinet can be made of stained glass or decorated with colored film. These products look more presentable than standard clear glass and allow you to hide the contents of the cabinets. You can choose any color - from red to lemon or sky blue.
The most expensive products are curved facades with a dusting or additional decor, as well as radiused finished headsets. Also, kitchens with stained glass will cost a lot when the facades are assembled from colored pieces. Products with photo printing will be more accessible - this is a relatively new technology that allows you to apply interesting images directly to glass. Of course, you won’t be able to decorate the glass facade with your own hands, but it will not be difficult to pick up original ready-made headsets.
We make a glass facade ourselves in 5 steps
We must say right away that it will be difficult to construct lockers with frameless doors with their own hands. The fact is that in this process you will need equipment that will help you process the edges of the glass and install the fittings. But the facade with a frame made of aluminum profile with glass, you can do it yourself in the usual home environment. To do this, you will need:
- aluminum profile itself, wooden battens or MDF battens,
- glue for glass
- silicone
- milling cutter
- elbow
- hardware
- hammer,
- furniture hinges.
The first thing to do is to assemble a frame for the future door. You will make it from an aluminum shape. You can also simplify the design and use wooden slats or MDF. It is clear that you will determine the width of the profile based on the design features.
Then everything is simple. If you took an aluminum profile, insert the glass with your own hands into the groove of the profile and fix it with glue. If the frame is made of MDF or wood, you will need to make grooves using the milling cutter. The milling cutter must be equal to the width of the glass. Further, when working with wood and MDF, there are several nuances:
- The cutter should be installed so that it is clearly centered on the part.
- The groove must be milled smoothly so that the cutter does not move along the edges of the frame.
- When the grooves are done, they must be filled with glue or silicone.
- Next, on the finished glass, you need to put on all 4 parts of the frame and, gently tapping with a hammer, drive the glass.
- Now we take a square and check the level of connection of the frames - it should be 90 degrees. If there are deviations, take the hammer again and gently center the glass.
That's the whole process of making doors with your own hands. Then you need to wait until the glue or silicone has completely dried and attach the accessories - hinges and handles. All accessories should be installed not on glass, but on the frame. For extra reliability and durability, you can use a special gasket between the glass, frame and hinges.
Types of glass
Glass for the facade performs the function of decorating the kitchen, adds comfort and coziness to the room, and also in some cases carries a practical function in terms of ergonomics of the room. Many kitchen furniture manufacturers offer a wide range of glass products for facades. This element is divided into several main types:
- stained glass - for facades are the most common in the market of budget products. This type of glass is used for finishing kitchens, commercial premises, as usual it is used in large sizes. By their strength, such glasses are also divided into several types - durable glasses can be tempered and withstand high temperatures, their difference and mechanical impact. Cheap models can crack or get damaged just after a certain time, without any external influences. Such they have a short warranty from the manufacturer of 10 years (excluding mechanical damage), however, a low cost relative to renowned competitors. But how kitchens with radial facades look in the photo and how effectively they look can be seen in the article here.
matte - massively used in inexpensive kitchens and perform purely stylistic functions, as they are not able to penetrate light and show the contents of facades. The installation of such glasses is the most budgetary option, in addition, manufacturers offer various color and surface structure as manufacturing options, which makes this type of glass a variety. By its strength, this type demonstrates rather high indices when using high-quality glass; the elements can withstand average mechanical stress and are indifferent to strong temperature drops. Also, these glasses are not peculiar to the appearance of chips and cracks; in the case of deformation, it completely breaks up. It is also worth choosing the right film for MDF facades.
triplex - A special type of glass that is made using special technology. It is based on the principle of “puff cake” when the glass is laid in several layers during the manufacturing process, forming a thick coating with a thickness of more than 5 mm. Such a coating and overall thickness allow the glass to withstand heavy loads, be immune to shocks and other damage. Also, the glass does not distort the space when looking at it. However, this type is considered one of the most expensive, and in the installation is quite troublesome, since it has a large mass. In this case, before installing this type, it is necessary to verify the overall strength of the fittings (as usual, reinforced fittings are ordered in conjunction with the manufacture of glasses according to this scheme). Also, most often such glasses are installed on expensive high-quality facades, which can also withstand a large load. With the formation of deformation, the glass does not crumble unlike stained glass and does not form dangerous fragments, due to which it is considered the safest to use. But what acrylic facades for the kitchen might look like and what reviews exist about such material can be found in the article here.
hardened - the most durable type of glass on the market. In terms of quality, this type is the most durable due to reusable hardening and acquires characteristics for maximum impact against temperature extremes and mechanical stress. In addition, such glass has excellent transparency and does not distort the image at a distance. This type of glass is quite expensive and is also used in combination with expensive types of facades made of durable wood. In terms of cost, such glasses are quite expensive - this parameter depends on the degree and quality of hardening, which varies greatly from manufacturer. You can also look at how Italian facades for the kitchen look in the photo and what their price is, it is indicated in great detail here.
But how well look at the photo of the kitchen with painted facades and how to choose the right one for your kitchen is detailed here.
Design and purpose
The direct purpose of the glass in the facade to give the interior a comfortable effect, create coziness and perform practical functions. The elements of comfort include the creation of a space with transparent elements that can be performed as in a frame version using laminated materials and frame execution in the forms of execution. Such technologies will give the interior a unique look and emphasize design ideas.
The framework version of the implementation involves placing the glass in the facade frame with the outline of the boundaries of execution - the materials for making glass can be different, as well as ordinary stained glass and matte materials, in this case it all depends on the desire of the consumer. Frameless execution implies the absence of frames in the facade - the glass is fixed completely instead of the front panel of the facade also using various options. Appearance is very convenient to evaluate if you use online kitchen 3d designing yourself or with the help of a specialist.
The practical function of such panels is to provide the consumer with the opportunity to see what is specifically stored in the facades and, accordingly, shelves. The hostess in the kitchen can always see what products are located inside the cabinets. This embodiment is more expensive compared to conventional wood panels or chipboard, but in all cases it looks more attractive than conventional front panels. The practical aspect is excluded only in the case of using matte or ribbed panels that perform only decoration functions.

On the video - a full description when using the material:
How to choose a glass panel
In order to select the appropriate panel, depending on the type and other characteristics, the following parameters must be considered:
- texture and color of glass. Clear glass is a classic version in most classic and some types of modern kitchens. The texture depends on the types and can be matte, transparent or in color using a lamination or a tempered look at the request of the customer. The color scheme is also quite diverse and is selected according to the overall color of the facades; accordingly, when choosing a certain facade color, you must choose either the classic version with transparent glass or in combination with the color scheme of the color of the entire kitchen,
the view should also be in harmony with the composition and texture of the facade of the entire kitchen. Tempered and stained glass glazing will be in harmony with the classic kitchen, the design of which does not accept harsh colors and the use of new materials in decoration, especially with the use of lamination or matte materials. In modern types of kitchens, frame glasses using various colors and materials of facades are an acceptable option. But how an apron for a patchwork kitchen may look like, and how to install it in place, is detailed here.
Matte ones are quite cheap both in production and in installation, but they have only a decorative purpose, other versions can combine the functions of decor and practice in the kitchen.
But what can be the combination of colors in the kitchen and what colors are best used, indicated here.
In general, glass on the facades of kitchens have only purely positive functionality and refresh the interior of the room, while also performing a practical function. The only drawback is the relative fragility of the material under mechanical stress and temperature extremes, as well as the relatively high cost of the material and the difficulties of installation when using heavy glasses.

What glass can I buy for a kitchen cabinet?
It is not difficult to buy glass for a kitchen cabinet, but sometimes it is extremely difficult to make a choice, since the range of such paintings is quite wide. Materials may differ both in texture and in the technique of their manufacture. The most popular products include:
- transparent classic glass, for which the style in which the interior of the kitchen is made is not very important. It can be considered a win-win option. However, for safety, it is recommended to purchase tempered glass. If it is damaged, you are guaranteed not to get hurt,
- frosted glass, which is a translucent canvas, behind which only light outlines of objects will be visible. Such products look quite stylish and modernize the kitchen. If you want to show your individuality, it makes sense to order frosted glass, characterized by a non-standard design,
- textured glass, providing not only a visual, but also a tactile effect. Such a canvas can be either engraved or corrugated. It softens the austere forms of kitchen furniture. At the same time, spots on this glass are almost invisible.
To buy glass for a kitchen cabinet means to ennoble your kitchen, and, possibly, to change it beyond recognition. The company "Discount Glass" will help you with this, offering a huge selection of glass paintings in Moscow and the region at very reasonable prices.
